Pre/Post Treatment Guideline: Injectables

Important about Injectables Treatment!

  • Drink plenty of water and eat something 2 hours before treatment.

Pre-treatment for Injectables

1. Avoid specific foods that promote the fragility of blood vessels and bruising like green tea and red wine for three days before treatment.

2. Add foods that make blood more viscous and less likely to leak from blood vessels like cabbage, spinach, and kale for three days before treatment.

3. For optimal results, and to minimize the chance of bleeding or bruising at the injection site, please avoid all blood thinning medication such as aspirin, Motrin Ibuprofen, and Aleave. Also avoid herbal supplements such as garlic, vitamin E, ginkgo Biloba, St. John’s wort and omega-3 capsules. If you have a cardiovascular history, please check with your doctor prior to stopping use of aspirin and blood thinners.

4. Inform your provider if you have a history of Perioral Herpes to receive advice on antiviral therapy prior to treatment (Valtrex 500 mg BID, 5 Days, start 2 days prior to treatment).

5. Avoid topical products such as Tretinoin (Retin-A) retinol, retinoids, glycolic acid, alpha hydroxy acid, or any “anti-aging” products for two days before and after treatment.

6. Do not drink alcoholic beverages 24 hours before or after your injectables treatment to avoid extra bruising.

7. Do not use dermal fillers or injectables if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are allergic to any of it’s ingredients or suffer from any neurological disorders. 

Prescription Topicals for Injectables:

You may be prescribed one of the following creams at consultation. If so, apply morning and night for three days before your treatment.

  • Auriderm cream
  • Prev Dem L-arginine
  • Arnica (can be both topical and oral)

When to call or text (909) 839-0714? If there is an increase in the following symptoms 8 to 12 hours after treatment. Always come in or make a 5 minute virtual consultation.

  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Redness
  • Bump

      99.9% of the time these symptoms resolve on their own quickly.     

Post-treatment for Injectables

  • Apply pressure immediately after treatment
  • Ice periodically for the first 2 days. After this, you may apply warm packs to promote circulation.
  • Utilize diet tips, supplements, and topicals recommended for bruising.
  • It is okay to apply makeup if needed until bruising has faded.
  • Avoid significant movement or massage of the treated area unless instructed by provider.
  • Avoid extensive sun or heat for 72 hours.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
  • Avoid consuming excess amounts of alcohol or salts to avoid excessive swelling.
  • If you have swelling, you may apply a cool compress for 15 minutes each hour.
  • Use Tylenol (Acetaminophen) for discomfort.
  • Try to sleep face up and slightly elevated if you are experiencing swelling.
  • Try Arnica (typically found in health food stores) to help the bruising and swelling. Begin taking at least two days prior to injectables.
  • Wait a minimum of four weeks after injectables treatment before skin care or laser treatments.

    • What to avoid? Specific foods which can promote the fragility of blood vessels and bruising such as green tea and red wine. Any blood thinners (see list) can cause bruising as well.
    • What to add in your diet? Certain foods can promote blood to become more viscous and less likely to leak from blood vessels such as cabbage, spinach, kale.

Topicals – 3 Days before and after injectables treatment

  1. Auriderm cream
  2. Prev Dem L-arginine
  3. Arnica topically or by mouth.

Supplements

  1. Arnica Montana
  2. Bromelain
  3. Cyruta Plus
  4. Cataplex ACP
  5. Vitamin C
  6. Pycnogenol

Treatment

  4. Until a bruise has faded, it is ok to apply makeup to appearance.
  5. Please contact us immediately if you have pain with bruises after 12 hours.
