Let me start by saying I am thrilled that I found Skin Perfect Brothers. I’ve been coming here regularly for a few years and they’ve been right there to help me with the inevitable signs of age that are now appearing at age 40.  During my visit Joseph suggested IPL for my freckles/aging spots I had all over my chest. I decided to get it done. Which was the best decision I could have made. I am so happy with the results so far it’s amazing.  Naomi H. |La Verne, CA

Here's How We Can Help You with Your Sun Spots | Liver Spots Images

Spectra Laser is most effect on Sunspots, Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) Melasma, and Tattoo Removal ( Liver Spots Images). According to protocols taken from Lutronic USA, the makers of Spectra Laser, studies show that adding topical creams to laser treatments lead to better results. The Spectra Green Laser is a deep penetrating laser with a 532 nm wavelength. It causes minimal to no pain and is ideal for eye and brow areas.

What is Intense Pulse Light?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), also known as Photo Genesis, Photo Facial or Photorejuvenation, is an incredible new skin-rejuvenation treatment that works by emitting light which penetrates the superficial layers of the skin, ridding you of various skin discolorations.

IPL is a great way to quickly, safely, and comfortably improve your skin’s texture, tone and color without the use of gel or topical anesthetics. IPL is exceptionally effective at removing brown pigmented lesions such as age spots, sun spots, and freckles as well as diffusing redness such as rosacea. It can be used on your face, chest, arms, and hands, leaving clearer, younger looking skin. ( Liver Spots Images)

Sun Spots Before & After: The Art of Natural Transformation

As shown in the diagram, this laser also penetrates deeper than Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) for the removal of sunspots afterwards. While most sunspots will respond to IPL, some are deeper within the skin and require lasers such as the Spectra Green Laser, which is more effective than IPL in most cases. It is safe to use on sensitive areas near the eye or eyelid as the 532 nm wavelength does not penetrate beyond the full thickness of the eyelid’s skin.

Things You Need to Know

  • Spectra Green Laser is not for the whole face and can only treat 2-3 spots per session.
  • Your sunspot needs to be at least a half a dime size.
  • If IPL did not work for you, Spectra Green Laser may be considered.
  • In many cases, you will have satisfactory results after only 2 sessions. However, some may take up to 3 or 4 sessions to see full results.
  • There will be scabbing of the area for 2-4 days after the treatment.
  • Post-care includes applying Neosporin and sunscreen to the area 3 times a day.
  • Sunlight greatly increases the formation of hyperpigmentation, so do your best to avoid sun exposure.

Difference between Sun spots & Melasma/PIH
(Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation)

  • Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation is also known as Pigmented Scars. Oftentimes our skin can become injured or show redness. Some examples often include overexposure to the sun or heat, acne, laser treatments that cause peeling of the skin. This also includes misuse/overuse of products such as Retin A, Hydroquinone, home chemical peels, or bleaching creams. So, whenever this happens, the skin will heal itself through inflammation.
  • Melasma are:
    1. Bigger than sunspots, borders not well defined
    2. Lighter than sunspots because they are deeper
    3. Mostly patchy
    4. Mostly around cheek area(s) on both sides, although other parts of the face can be involved
  • Sunspots are:
    1. Discrete and have defined borders
    2. Darker in appearance since they more superficial
    3. Mostly circular in shape
    4. Can occur on any part of the face

Suppression Therapy

Sunlight greatly increases the formation of any type of hyperpigmentation. In addition to avoiding sun exposure, “Suppression Therapy” – the daily use of cosmeceuticals that suppress the activation of melanocytes in sunlight – is highly effective in combating the symptoms of hyperpigmentation.

Factors that stimulate hyperpigmentation:

  • Number #1 cause: Sun!
  • Dryness and Inflammation
  • Pregnancy and hormonal contraceptives
  • Hormonal irregularities
  • Aging
  • Stress hormones triggered by lack of sleep
  • Fatigue
  • Smoke
  • Inflammatory diet such as fast food
  • Genetics

“Hyperpigmentation, age spots, post-acne scarring(opens in new tab) and freckles are all signs of melanin coming to the surface of damaged skin,” explains Dr Murad, Board Certified Dermatologist and Founder of Murad Skincare. “Melanin is produced after the skin experiences trauma, such as UV exposure. We’ve spoken to the experts for advice on the causes, treatments and at-home products to treat liver spots and other forms of hyperpigmentation.”
