Wrinkles around the mouth, also called perioral wrinkles, can be cause by age, genetic, smoking and sun exposure. These wrinkles, which are mostly due to a loss of collagen and elasticity, can be treated in several different ways.
Fillers. We usually use a hyaluronic acid based filler (such as Restylane, Juvederm and Belotero) to fill in the lines individually. Fillers are wonderful to replace lost volume and the procedure can be done in as quickly as 10 mins. Results lasts between 6-12 months.
Botox. Usually takes only 5 minutes to perform a few injections and it lasts about 4-6 month. Botox will soften the area, help stop the wrinkles from worsening and give your upper lip a plump. While mosquito bite bumps may appear, it will dissipate in a few hours and you will be able to return to normal activities immediately.
Fraxel. Also called skin resurfacing or deep laser peel, Fraxel is a great treatment to smooth out your upper lip. It causes dead skin to slough off and stimulate new skin growth. Massive new collagen is created and the upper lips creases are then filled in. It usually takes 3-6 treatments (once a month) to see the maximum result.
