Pre/Post Treatment Guideline: Laser Tattoo Removal

Pre-Treatment Instruction

  • Avoid Sun exposure, including tanning beds and the application of sunless tanning products for 2-4 weeks before and afterwards. Avoiding sun exposure for 4 weeks before each treatment and 4 weeks after improves the results and further decreases the risk of adverse event. Sun exposure (including running, hiking, surfing, gardening, sports, etc.), tanning, and sunless tanning products decrease the effectiveness of the laser tattoo removal treatment. It also increases the chance of post-treatment complications including skin discoloration and scarring. We also recommend sun avoidance in the treatment area throughout the entire treatment series.
  • Treated areas must be clean, and free of any lotion, makeup, and sunscreen. If you have any of these products on, then we must wash it off prior to treatment.
  • Discontinue Accutane and any other photosensitizing medication for a period of at least 6 months before treatment. Furthermore, do not use them during your course of treatment.
  • Please avoid Waxing and/or chemical depilatories in the treatment area for 2 weeks before and after the treatment to avoid skin sensitivity.
  • If there is dark hair or prevalent velds hair (peach fuzz) in the treatment area, then please shave the hair 12-24 hours prior to your appointment.
  • Do not schedule an appointment for Laser Hair Removal if you are pregnant or trying.
  • During the course of your treatment, notify our staff of any changes to your medical history, health status. Also consider personal activities that are relevant to your treatment.
